The co-drivers view: Nijmegen

Filmed late 2010 while driving through the Dutch city of Nijmegen on a cold afternoon. Turning onto the Sint Annastraat, which is one of the important routes into the city center while passing through a residential area that is typical for the early 20th century. As Nijmegen was damaged quite heavily during the second world war (aerial bombardment and heavy fighting in 1944) damaged buildings have been replaced by more modern structures.

This road ends at the "Keizer Karelplein" that is a big roundabout in the city center, functioning as a connection between the 6 main roads that end in this roundabout. It is not one of the most easiest roundabouts to drive, as no seperate lanes are available and one has to give priority to traffic that enters the roundabout while keeping an eye open for cars that might creep left or right of your car without noticing.

After leaving the roundabout we continue our advance towards the "Waalbrug" that serves as a major route for traffic towards Arnhem, the same route that the allied advance was taking during the 1944 "Operation Market Garden". Our trip ends after having past the bridge and driving into the direction of Arnhem, through the local village of "Lent".

Picture update: BMW 730Ld F02

As follow up on the video footage of a 2011 BMW 730Ld, a ton of pictures of this car have been posted in the BMW 7-series F01 album.

Cashmere silver metallic is the color of this car, it is a silver base with a "goldish glow" mixed in between. As can be seen from the pictures below, the color can have different tint depending on the lighting.

In the interior "Oyster and Black Nappa Leather" can be found. Although light interiors are susceptible dirt and soiling, this one features seats and door panels in light colors, while the rest of the interior surface is kept dark, reducing visible wear and tear on the interior significantly.

Car manufacturers are constantly following consumer trends. Nowadays, they have spotted a trend towards the more "natural" aspects in life. One example is the introduction of brown metallic paint (Audi Q7 Facelift introduction, marakesh brown metallic at BMW) while a new trend is the matte wood trim (Fineline Matte Wood trim) in this BMW 730Ld. Personally I was always attracted to a wood trim, but this one just looks excellent, giving a totally new impression of what a wood trim is.

Another scoop that BMW landed has been the "Ceramic controls", although they have little to no practical use, it looks very nice and BMW has succeeded in creating a new "want to have" gadget. See the pictures above for the ceramic controls and the wood trim.

BMW News: week 24

  • BMWs biggest news this week concerns the new BMW M5 F10, as BMW has released more details and a few pictures on this new car. The M5 F10 will feature a high-revving 4.4-litre V8 engine with a TwinPower Turbo package, delivering 560hp (412kW) with a maximum torque of 680 Newton metres. From 0 to 100km/h (62mp/h) the M5 takes 4.4 seconds with a top speed that is limited to 250km/h. However, a M Driver's Package is also offered with the limiter increased to 305km/h (190mp/h) for enjoyable high-speed cruising on the German Autobahn (probably only possible on early Sunday mornings). As with the previous M5 E60, BMW North America will probably offer the new M5 F10 with a manual transmission, although no official information has been released concerning this subject. For more technical information please visit BMW's press release, while picture's of the new M5 can be found here.

The co-drivers view: Sunday on the Autobahn

The German Autobahn, subject of many discussions around the world. One say it is the ultimate road of freedom, while others claim that the freedom is curtailed by many speed limits and other traffic. On a nice sunday in may I turned the car into a camera car to give you an impression of what is going on this road of speed.

An Audi A6 3.0 TDI Avant (4F / 2011) is a perfectly suitable car for the Autobahn, it has enough power to drive at high speeds (200 to 250km/h or 125 to 155mph/h) while still having a moderate fuel consumption.

In this video we drive in central Germany along the Autobahn "A6" towards the east, from Frankenthal towards Heidelberg (greater Frankfurt area). You will see that on certain parts (bridges, road works, interchanges, near urban areas) the speed is limited while on the regular stretches one can drive as fast as he / she wishes (letting it fly at 155mp/h 04:45).
Also you can notice that most cars move towards the right when a faster car approaches (01:05), although some drivers to not respect this unwritten rule and still get in the way (04:20). This also works the other way around, if traffic in the left lane cannot move to the right the approaching driver usually waits and does not tailgate or use signals to indicate his / hers wish to overtake.

Ater the "Dreieck Viernheim" interchange the Autobahn A6 switches to a 3-lane road with generally leads to a more relaxter and faster travel because there is less trafic in the left lane.

Audi News: week 23

  • After being discontinued in 2005, Audi seems to be reviving the A2 as an MPV-style car. The main difference is that the car will be electrically powered, in response to the BMW's i3. For more info on the new Audi A2, see the website of Autoexpress.
  • Production of another Audi novelty, the new Audi Q3, has started yesterday with the first Q3 rolling of the production line in Martorell, Spain. The annual production of the Q3 is estimated to be around 100.000 cars each year, being produced in a three-shift assembly line. More background information on the Q3 production line can be found in the Audi press release.
  • Finally Audi has released more information on the new Audi R8 Spyder. Audi used much resources to decrease the weight of the car and managed to shave of 85 kg of its weight and features a V10 engine with 560hp. Production is said to be curtailed to just 333 units to retain exclusivity, and more on the R8 Spyder through dailycar.info.

BMW News: week 23

Another new section I would like to try is a small "news" section on Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz. Besides my own experiences in the other blogs, you will find a short and compact overview of the latest news on these car brands with links to other media that will take you more in depth.

Major news was the world premier of the new BMW 1-series (F20) that has been in production since a few days now. As with the previous (E87) model, both a 3- and 5-door 1-series will be available with the following engines:

For more technical information and pictures on the new BMW 1-series visit bimmerfile.com or go to the BMW-website directly.

In 2012 the new BMW 3-series F30 will be introduced (interestingly sharing the platform with the aforementioned 1-series F20), so the production of the current 3-series platform (including E90, E91, E92 and E93) will come to an end in October of this year.  Through autoblog.com

BMW's current 7-series has been on the market for almost 3 years now, which means that the LCI (or facelift) is due to come in the next 12 months. BMWblog reports that it will be fitted with a fully configurable LCD gauge cluster which Mercedes Benz already offers since 2005 in the S-class W221, allowing the gauge cluster to provide more and specific information to the driver (from the regular speed dails to satnav and entertainment info).

This is it for now, stay tuned for a new small update on BMW next week and for an update on Audi and Mercedes Benz in the days to come!

Changes at Guitigefilmpjes blog

Dear readers of the Guitigefilmpjes blog,

as you will have noticed, I made some changes to this blog. First of all I decreased the amount of posts shown on the front page from 20 to 5, I did this to speed up the loading of the blog as the pictures and videos take up quite some time to load.

However, to increase acces to the contant I added a menubar at the top, when clicking on a specific subject you will find all the post related to it.

Last of all I changed the background from a dark color to a light one, this to make it more comfortable to read large amounts of text.

Hopefully you will like these changes and will be able to get more from my weblog.

Video Update: Mercedes Benz C200 CDI Estate

The Mercedes Benz C-class Estate (otherwise known as the "T-Modell") has been on sale since December 2007. In the videos below a C200 CDI Estate MY2010 is depicted in the most raw form it can get, with the standard trim (previously known as "Classic") and with just an APS50 Satnav system and Parktronic parking assist. Still, in Germany Mercedes Benz charges around €40.000 for this car.

Is it worth it? I do not think so and would probably buy a young used car (6 to 12 months old) with a few more options added to it.

In the first video, a general walkround of the interior and exterior is given, in the second a video an overview of the fuel consumtion, and in the third video we test the amximum speed of the Mercedes Benz C200 CDI.

Picture update: Mercedes Benz C-class Facelift

After having visited the Amsterdam Motor Show (Autorai 2011) a few weeks ago, I have a couple of pictures that I would like to share with you. In this post I can show you several pictures of the Mercedes Benz C-class Facelift, a regular sedan and estate + the new C-class coupe. The lighthing was bad so the picture quality unfortunately had to suffer, but I hope that the pictures still give you a proper impression of the facelift.

Video Update: Mercedes Benz E350 CGI Coupé

Mercedes Benz E350 CGI Coupé (MY2009 / C207).

The new Mercedes Benz E-class coupe has been introduced in 2009 (start of sale in Germany was March 2009) and was intended to replace the "CLK-class". As with the CLK, the current E-class coupe shares the same platform with the current C-class (W204) and only 60% of the technology with the E-class (W212), while the latter 40% is also shared with the C-class. One example is that the optional "Airmatic" is not available on the E-class coupe (likewise on the C-class), while it can be ordered on the standard Sedan and Estate versions.

Technical data for the Mercedes Benz E350 CGI Coupé:
Engine: V6-engine (petrol) with 292hp (215kW) at 3498cm3

Torque: 365nm
0 - 100km/h (60mph): 6,3 seconds
Top Speed: 250km/h (155mp/h) - limited
